Example Problems for 8th Grade Algebra I:

8th grade algebra i – Example: 1

Solve: 10(q – 8) – 16q - 20 = 3(q + 15)

Solution:

Given expression is

10(q – 8) – 16q - 20 = 3(q + 15)

Multiplying the integer terms

10q - 80 – 16q - 20 = 3q + 45

Grouping the above terms

-6q - 100 = 3q + 45

Add 100 on both sides

-6q + 100 – 100 = 3q + 45 + 100

Grouping the above terms

-6q = 3q +145

Subtract 3q by on both sides

-6q – 3q = 3q +145 – 3q

Grouping the above terms

-9q = 145

Divide -9 on both sides

q = 145/-9

q = (145)/(9)

Answer: q = 145/9.
